Kanpur, India — A second death has come to light involving the same hair transplant specialist in Kanpur, just months before the recent demise of engineer Vineet Dubey, who reportedly died from complications following a similar procedure.
On Wednesday, the mother of Mayank Katiyar, a 32-year-old tech professional from Farrukhabad, approached Kanpur Police Commissioner Akhil Kumar with documentation alleging that her son died less than 24 hours after undergoing a hair transplant conducted by the same female doctor now under investigation.
According to Pramodini Katiyar, her son, a B.Tech graduate employed in the private sector, underwent the hair restoration procedure on November 18, 2024, at a private hospital in Sharda Nagar. He died the following day. “We have submitted all related medical records and the clinic’s documents to the commissioner, and we are requesting an impartial probe,” she told reporters.
The case follows closely on the heels of Vineet Dubey’s death, an engineer at Panki Power House, who also died shortly after receiving treatment from the same doctor. In both instances, families claim that the doctor became unresponsive once complications arose.
Katiyar’s brother, Kushagra, recalled the events leading up to Mayank’s death. He said his brother began experiencing severe facial swelling and headaches soon after the procedure. Although initially reassured by the doctor, the family claims she later blocked their calls and ceased all communication.
“Mayank was given painkillers and told to follow a routine. But when his condition deteriorated, we were asked to consult a cardiologist, who ruled out any heart issues. She then asked us to return to her clinic, but shortly after that visit, my brother died,” he said.
The family did not request a post-mortem at the time, believing the death was sudden and unexpected. However, after learning about Vineet Dubey’s death and the subsequent police case, they decided to come forward with their experience.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abhishek Kumar confirmed that the previous case remains under investigation and that police are aware of the second incident. “We are awaiting directives from senior officials. In the earlier case, we are actively pursuing the doctor, who is currently absconding,” he said.
The mounting allegations have raised concerns over the oversight of cosmetic medical procedures in the region and highlight the potential dangers of unregulated or poorly monitored practices. Investigations into both deaths are ongoing.
