Sophia Bush Reveals Hair Loss From Alleged On-Set Abuse

by Madonna

Sophia Bush, renowned for her role in One Tree Hill, has courageously shared her experience of alleged physical and emotional abuse on a later television set—an ordeal that led to significant hair loss and other health struggles.

In a heartfelt interview on Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky, the 42-year-old actress reflected on the difficult period following her longtime role on the popular drama. She joined the cast of a series she described as a “bucket list” project, where the troubling incidents occurred.

Bush spoke of enduring ongoing trauma tied to an older colleague’s behavior, describing the workplace environment as a “physical hell.” Though she did not name the show, her timeline points to her 2014–2017 role as Erin Lindsay on NBC’s Chicago P.D.

“I had the opportunity to leave after two years,” Bush revealed. “I told myself I wouldn’t let someone else diminish my integrity. I’d be unflappable and do my job. But I couldn’t.”

The toll on her hair health and overall well-being was severe. Bush recounted episodes of “spontaneous illness,” waking up “covered in hives,” and experiencing drastic weight fluctuations alongside significant hair loss.

“As an extrovert who loves people, the anxiety was overwhelming—I could barely leave the house,” she said. “Even being touched in public would make me jump. I couldn’t talk to strangers or be looked at, especially at work.”

Comparing the ordeal to a “physical attack,” she described losing control over her own body and going to work each day “like going into battle.” By April 2017, just months before the #MeToo movement emerged, Bush finally left the series.

Later that year, an executive from the show reached out to apologize, acknowledging the gravity of what had happened and what was left unresolved.

Sophia Bush’s candid account offers important hair health advice about the often-overlooked physical impacts of workplace trauma and the necessity of protecting one’s well-being in difficult environments.
