Dani Harmer Reveals Impact of Perimenopausal Hair Loss at 36

by Madonna

Actress Dani Harmer, best known for her role as Tracy Beaker in the beloved children’s television series, has spoken candidly about her ongoing battle with perimenopause and its emotional toll—particularly the unexpected hair loss she has experienced at just 36 years old.

In a heartfelt appearance on ITV’s This Morning, Harmer described how her thinning hair and emerging bald patches have affected her self-esteem, calling the issue one of the most difficult symptoms she’s faced so far.

“I think this is what I’m struggling with the most,” she told hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley. “For me, my hair is my identity—it’s what I’m known for. So to be losing it is… I’m not a vain person, but it’s thinning, and I’m getting bald patches. It’s starting to affect my confidence behind closed doors.”

Harmer shared a photo of the hair she lost during a recent wash, explaining that while it looked substantial, it had actually improved compared to a month ago. “It was almost double the amount back then,” she added.

To counter the effects, Harmer has turned to a combination of supplements, hair gummies, and oil treatments. Though she’s seen modest improvement, she stressed how emotionally difficult the process has been.

The mother of two appeared alongside This Morning’s resident health expert Dr. Zoe, where she emphasized the importance of speaking out, especially as someone experiencing perimenopause at a younger-than-typical age.

“I just wanted to be open about it,” Harmer said. “Even though it’s considered rare, I don’t think it’s that uncommon—especially judging by the messages I’ve received.”

She also praised her positive experience with her general practitioner, encouraging others to seek help for symptoms they may not immediately associate with perimenopause. “Going to the GP can really, really help,” she said. “I had such awful symptoms and needed support.”

Following the segment’s release on TikTok, Harmer received widespread support from viewers, many of whom shared similar experiences with early perimenopause and related hair health issues.

One commenter wrote, “Perimenopause is not spoken about enough. My body has literally just shut down—it’s not easy.” Another added, “I feel exactly the same about my hair. So glad she has spoken about this and raised awareness.”

Harmer’s openness has ignited a broader conversation about early-onset perimenopause and the need for improved access to hormonal therapies and support systems. Her story underscores the growing call for more visibility and understanding of women’s health issues—especially when it comes to Hair Health Advice and emotional well-being.
