Samantha Busch, wife of NASCAR star Kyle Busch, is bravely sharing her ongoing struggle with severe hair loss caused by alopecia.
On June 10, Samantha, 39, posted a photo on her Instagram Stories showing strands of hair stuck to a wet shower wall, revealing the extent of her hair loss. “It just won’t stop today,” she wrote. “Feels like a year of progress and growth all fell out in the span of two weeks. Feel even more scared this time because I’m on all the meds, supplements, have completely changed my diet, lifestyle and exercise, and out of nowhere, bam.”
Despite the distressing hair loss, Samantha clarified she is not experiencing other symptoms such as brain fog, fatigue, or soreness. “To be honest, this is the best I’ve ever felt in my life, minus my hair,” she added.
The blogger first publicly addressed her hair loss in early 2023, explaining that the shedding was coming from the roots rather than breakage. She underwent numerous blood tests—including hormone, thyroid, and iron levels—which showed no clear cause for the sudden hair thinning. “It’s not localized like a spot or at my part line, but an all-over thinning,” she noted.
Samantha expressed how painful it was to watch her already thin hair fall out and said this experience differed from the alopecia she faced during her fertility challenges, including pregnancy loss and IVF treatments. She and Kyle, who married in 2010, share two children: Brexton, 10, and Lennix, 3.
One month after her initial update, Samantha revealed plans to consult a functional doctor and a dermatologist specializing in hair issues. “I’m simply trying to stop the shed,” she said. “I’m happy to report the shedding has lessened in the last week, but there’s still a long way to go for regrowth and to understand what’s causing it.”
In September 2024, Samantha shared another milestone: she began wearing wigs. Reflecting on the emotional impact, she wrote, “I’ll never forget the day two years ago when I sat on the bathroom floor, hair scattered everywhere, wondering if I’d have to wear a wig. The fear and frustration were real.”
She admitted concerns about how wigs would look and whether people would stare but embraced them as a way to protect her natural hair and express her style. “The growth—in my hair and in my spirit—has been the most rewarding part,” Samantha said.
Her openness about hair transplant recovery alternatives like wigs has helped her feel more confident and connected to others facing similar challenges. “This journey has reminded me that we’re never alone,” she concluded.
