Gone is her signature bleached-blonde crop. Instead, Ellen is embracing a deeper, brunette hue, streaked with hints of gray, offering fans a rare look at her natural hair for the first time in years. Wearing a relaxed outfit and flashing her trademark smile, Ellen appeared comfortable and confident in the video, captioned: “Portia thought it would be fun to film my first time on the mower. She was right.”
While this might be the first wide public appearance of her natural hair in months, eagle-eyed fans may recall her debuting a darker look back in November 2024 in a cozy Instagram post shared by singer Natalie Imbruglia and The Farmer’s Dog. That clip featured Ellen and her wife, Portia de Rossi, enjoying a live music night among friends.
DeGeneres previously opened up about her hair journey on the Season 17 premiere of The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2019. After a major hair-color mishap over the summer hiatus left her hair damaged, she was advised to shave it down to remove the remnants of bleach and start fresh. “I’d never seen my natural color,” she admitted at the time. “I’d been coloring my hair for so long.”
Though she eventually returned to her platinum blonde look—admitting a producer convinced her to bleach it again—DeGeneres has since stepped away from the spotlight and seems to be reconnecting with her natural self, both literally and figuratively.
