LONDON – Renowned for her glossy, perfectly styled locks, Catherine, Princess of Wales, continues to captivate with her signature bouncy blow-dry at every public appearance. Her enviable hair routine, it turns out, is both accessible and rooted in consistent care.
At 43, the Princess – patron of the Rugby Football Union – drew admiration during the final day of the Six Nations Championship in Cardiff last month. Accompanying Prince William at the Principality Stadium, she stepped out in a navy double-breasted coat adorned with gold buttons, paired with black suede knee-high boots and a coordinating leather clutch. Despite the polished ensemble, it was once again her flowing curls that stole the spotlight.
According to celebrity hairstylist Michael Gray, the secret to Kate’s consistently healthy hair lies in two key habits: regular trims and the use of scalp-stimulating products.
In an interview with Hello! magazine, Gray stressed the importance of trimming hair every eight weeks—even for those hoping to grow it longer. “Regular cuts help maintain strength and reduce breakage, allowing hair to grow long while staying healthy,” he explained. This practice is particularly vital as women enter their 40s, a time when hormonal changes can affect hair texture and thickness.
Gray also revealed products believed to be part of Kate’s regimen. One is the Nioxin Hair Thickening System 1 Shampoo (£23.50), which helps remove excess oil and build-up from the scalp, encouraging a more favorable environment for hair growth. He also recommends the Living Proof Scalp Care Density Serum (£54) to enhance scalp health and improve hair density.
To support hair health from the inside out, Gray suggests taking supplements such as Perfectil, which are formulated to promote strength and growth.
Hairstylist Tom Pike, weighing in on the Princess’s evolving style, highlighted her recent embrace of a more glamorous Hollywood wave. He recommends applying a smoothing cream or blow-dry spray before straightening the hair, then using a large barrel curling wand to shape soft waves—finished with gentle brushing for a polished look.
Gray estimates the length of the Princess’s hair to be approximately 20 inches, crediting its healthy appearance to careful maintenance. “As hair grows longer, it becomes more prone to splitting,” he noted. “But with routine trims, Kate keeps it lovely, long, and healthy.”
Adem Oygur of Adem London echoed this view, describing long, flowing hair as a defining element of Kate’s style. “Kate will likely be long for life,” he said in an interview with Fabulous. “She’s always worn her hair this way—even before becoming a royal. It’s a key part of her identity.”
Oygur added that her long layers not only suit her face shape but also contribute to a youthful, timeless appearance. While short haircuts may follow trends, he said, the Princess of Wales proves that long, well-maintained hair is a classic that never goes out of style.
